Five Pillars of Support

Social & Community Connection

No veteran should stand alone. We rebuild the camaraderie of service through events, mentorship, and peer networks — replacing isolation with belonging and making sure every veteran has people who show up for them.

UVAN Definition

Social and community connection for veterans and their families means having a sense of belonging, trusted relationships, and access to supportive networks that foster stability, purpose, and long-term well-being. It recognizes that successful life after service is strengthened by connection to peers, families, and communities — and that isolation can undermine health, economic stability, and family resilience.

For veterans, social and community connection includes peer relationships, community engagement, and opportunities to lead, serve, and contribute beyond military service. For families, it means feeling supported, informed, and included, with access to networks that reduce stress and strengthen relationships during times of transition or challenge.

UVAN strengthens social and community connection by bringing partners together, facilitating peer and family engagement, and connecting veterans to community-based support, legal and social services, and civic opportunities. Through collaboration and intentional relationship-building, UVAN helps veterans and their families build trust, strengthen resilience, and remain connected to the communities they call home.
